The Town Council of Folgoso de
Caurel its placed on the southeast of Lugo´s province, with a extension of 193
km2 (but only mean a 1% of the Galician´s surface,here be concentrated a 40% of
superior plants of the Comunity), constituted by mountain ranges in direction
NE-SO, between them running many rivers and creeks, the most important is the
Rio Lor, that formed a vertigo picture with narrow valleys and vertical
hillsides culminated for tops like Pía Páxaro (1.616 m.), Formigueiros (1.654
m.), Escrita (1.455m).
The confluence gives the climatic tendencies mediterranean and
eurosiberian, beginnin the ocean climate of the town,
in mountain climate, creating strong diferencies of weather, of weather to
summer.
The alternate of ground and the damp climate of the mountain make a rich
variety of floral distributed in altitude scale. Them,
in the tops we find piornales, under 1.400 m. beech, yew, birch, oak, holly;
and down chestnuts, ilex,strawberry trees, moors. With this natural paradise
combinates fauna formada por wolfs, foxs,
roe deer, wild boar, genets, badger, hares, rabbits, squirrel, marten, stoat,
red partidge, eagle owl,...
The population raise to 1.310 habitants, distributed
in nine parrishs and forty-five towns:
Vilamor (San Vicente): O Carballal, Froxán, Mazo
Santigoso, Castro Portela, Vilar, A Campa, Vidallón & Vilamor.
Folgoso (Santa María): Sobredo, Ferreirós de
Abaixo, Ferreirós de Arriba, Santa Eufemia, Eiriz, Valdomir, A Pendella, O
Touzón & Folgoso.
Seceda (San Silvestre): Cortes, Lousadela &
Seceda.
Seoane (San Juán): Mercurín, Ferrería Vella, Ferrería de Seoane, Moreda, Parada,
Piñeira & Seoane.
Esperante (San Pedro): Castro de Romeor, Romeor,
Millares, Mostad, Esperante & Campelo.
Horreos (San Pedro): Hórreos & Ferramulín.
Visuña: Visuña.
Meiraos (Santa María): Pedrafita, Paderne, Miraz, O Mazo, Villasibil & Meiraos.
Noceda (San Pedro): Noceda, Vilela & Teixeira.
The Council´s capital is Folgoso, sitting on the road Quiroga-Becerreá
with 23 km. of Quiroga (N-120) and with 38 of Piedrafita del Cebrero (A-6). In
